Some may remember that Building 53 as the 5-story headquarters of the Gas Turbine Department engineering in the 1950s and 1960s. After GE built the Greenville, SC for gas turbine production(circa 1970), Bldg. 53 diminished in importance. It was attached to Bldg. 49 where the actual manufacturing of gas turbines was done for about 3 decades.

Take a look at what General Electric used to be and what it became in 2005. Once upon a time, the parking lots were full (30,000 workers). Nowadays, less than 3000 workers. Plenty of parking available right next to the buildings, as shown in the last photo.
